Report Finds Democracy is Under Attack for Black Americans
A new National Urban League report cites what civil rights and urban advocacy groups call some of the greatest threats to democracy facing black Americans. The extreme views of some local, state, and federal political leaders who seek to restrict history lessons in schools and undermine how black civil servants work are black Americans against democracy. It's one of the biggest threats, says the National Urban League. The former New Orleans mayor Mark Morial, who heads civil rights and city advocacy groups, gave the latest example. The Republican-controlled Tennessee House of Representatives voted earlier this month to expel two black members of Congress for violating the rule of law. The couple was participating in an indoor gun control protest after a shooting at a Nashville school that killed three of his students and three of his staff members. This is so sad. Read more.
